How we build it

What goes into a Bayline pool fence.

Florida's pool barrier law (Chapter 515, Florida Statutes) sets the floor: at least 4 ft high on the outside, no gaps a young child could get through, and gates that open away from the pool, self-close and self-latch.

Vinyl handles chlorine splash and salt air without rusting, and the open pickets keep your view of the water clear.

  • Built to Florida pool barrier rules
  • Self-closing, self-latching gates
  • No rust from chlorine or salt air
  • Open sightlines to the water

Questions

Florida pool fence law: what people ask.

What does Florida require for a pool fence?

Section 515.29 of the Florida Statutes requires a residential pool barrier at least 4 ft high on the outside, with no gaps, openings or protrusions a young child could crawl under, squeeze through or climb over. Gates that lead to the pool must open outward, away from the water, and close and latch on their own. Your city may add its own rules on top.

Is a pool fence required in Florida?

Not always a fence, but every new residential pool needs at least one safety feature to pass final inspection. Section 515.27 of the Florida Statutes lists five: an enclosure that meets the barrier rules in 515.29, an approved safety pool cover, exit alarms on doors and windows that open to the pool, self-closing and self-latching doors to the pool, or a certified pool alarm. Bayline builds the first option: a vinyl enclosure that meets 515.29.

Do you pull the pool fence permit?

Yes. We pull the permit with your city or county and build to what the inspector checks: the barrier height, the gaps, and gates that open outward and close and latch on their own. After the install, we walk the gate with you so you know how the latch works and how to keep it closing properly.

Can a pool fence also give me privacy?

A pool barrier can be solid or open as long as it meets the rules. Many owners pair open vinyl pool fence near the water, which keeps the view clear, with 6-ft privacy fence on the property line. We lay out both at your consult so the whole yard works together and the pool section still passes inspection.

Popular in Tampa, Clearwater, Brandon, Wesley Chapel and Riverview.
